There are many courses you can now take to get into the field of security it just depends entirely on the kind of security job you want to eventually be working in. There are a variety of security person jobs whether it is working in a retail environment, factory, offices or on construction grounds etc. Here are some options that are available to those that want to further a career in the security sector and also skills and qualifications you may need;

• College courses - There are different courses relating to the different sectors of the security field so you may be best to speak to a careers advisor before taking just any of the courses because the kind of security work you want to go into will have a course that will be more so related to that sector than the other courses. The courses you can take usually only take around 35 hours to gain but obviously if you wanted to be qualified for a particular position, such as protecting goods during transit, it may take a while longer. In most instances the person in training will receive the basic training then they will have a couple of months of on the job training whilst being supervised through out before being fully classed as a security guard. An alternate course to the 30 hour course is the NVQ level 2 in Providing Security Services. These training courses will train you in how to deal efficiently with emergencies, the different areas of law you will be required to know, information on customer care developing social skills, how to write out a report and then will also help you with personal issues surrounding the job such as avoiding conflict and how to resolve conflict once an outburst has started.

• Once you have the qualifications you want and the skills required to do the job you can then start looking into what kind of job you would like to come of these qualifications. There are plenty of options if you are willing to work as part of a large firm as they can arrange for you to work in many different areas as they will more than likely have jobs with various companies to carry out, this is usually through out different parts of the country also so gives you more options as to where you work. There are people that work for a large company and then start their own company as a security guard, it is possible to succeed this way but usually takes a while to make money from it a when you first start you will only be able to take on a small amount of work which will restrict your choice of when you work. This is unless you had a group of people that were going to set the company up with you.
